The Award program's central purpose is to improve the quality of human research protection by, for example:

• Recognizing excellence by giving the Annual Award
• Disseminating excellent practices and innovations identified through the Award competition.
  

In order to design a sound Award program and to improve processes for making the Award, Health Improvement Institute has established an Award Advisory Board and various committees, developed the program using experiences gained from its other programs, and initiated a continuous quality improvement (CQI) process. Award program CQI mechanisms include the following:

• Analysis and evaluation of Award program processes
• Solicited feedback from Award Advisory Board and committee members, Award judges, and applicants
• Suggestions from:
  • Institute staff
  • Award program participants
  • Research community and general public.
