The HIIQA is designed to improve the processes used to give awards to, or to rate, Internet health information sites (referred to as awards/ratings), and, thereby, to improve the quality (reliability) of health information available on the Internet. The HIIQA process has the following 8 main aspects:

Guiding the HIIQA process - the HIIQA Advisory Board.

Step 1: Formulating criteria and standards.

Step 2: Searching for awards/ratings.

Step 3: Determining which identified awards/ratings meet HIIQA scope (inclusion/exclusion) criteria.

Step 4: Assessing (judging) awards/ratings.

Step 5: Posting results on the Institute's web site.

Minimizing potential conflicts of interest.

Improving HIIQA processes.
