Arrangements Development Committee (ADC) Initial meeting

The ADC meeting – held on November 1, 2011, in Rockville, MD – created a forum for regulators, biopharmas, academic researchers, and other stakeholders interested in research to explore various aspects of the harmonization of health research guidelines. This initial meeting was a part of a Project to improve the quality and the utility of research and therby to maintain and to improve the health of individuals and populations.

The ADC meeting was designed to:

• Facilitate reaching agreement on organizational arrangements for a sustainable mechanism to harmonize health research guidelines; including its governance & funding.
• Identify the boundaries of health research and priorities for guidelines harmonization.
• Create resources that are needed to harmonize and to maintain worldwide guidelines for health research
• Establish a database of relevant guidelines and metrics
• Promote marketing and uptake of health research guidelines.

The ADC meeting used an interactive format designed to stimulate exploration of ideas and to create a framework to facilitate policy decision-making. At the meeting, participants received a copy of the ADC meeting workbook.

• The day began with scene-setting presentations
• Participants then broke into 5 workgroups. Each workgroup addressed a different discussion topic.
• Participants reassembled to hear and to discuss workgroup results.
• The workshop rapporteur’s assessment and organizer’s summation concluded the workshop agenda.
